On September 8, 2013, IFMCA members Jon Broxton, Dan Goldwasser and Daniel Schweiger attended a cocktail reception honoring the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Emmy music nominees for 2013. The event, which was organized by the Society of Composers and Lyricists, was held at the headquarters of the Television Academy in North Hollywood, California.
SCL president Ashley Irwin and Television Academy music branch governors Ian Fraser and Michael Levine introduced each of the nominated composers and songwriters:
- In the Outstanding Music Composition for a TV Series category: Jeff Beal for House of Cards, Robert Duncan for Last Resort, John Lunn for Downton Abbey, Charlie Mole for Mr. Selfridge, Trevor Morris for The Borgias , and David Schwartz for Arrested Development.
- In the Outstanding Music Composition for a Miniseries, TV Movie or Special category: Lorne Balfe for Restless, Dirk Brossé for Parade’s End, Mychael Danna for World Without End, Ivor Guest and Robert Logan for Mea Maxima Culpa: Silence in the House of God, Philip Miller for The Girl, and Anton Sanko for Ring of Fire.
- In the Outstanding Main Title Theme Music category: Nathan Barr for The Americans, Nathan Barr for Hemlock Grove, Jeff Beal for House of Cards, Sean Callery for Elementary, Brian Keane for Copper, and Bear McCreary for Da Vinci’s Demons
- In the Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics category: Andrew McMahon for “I Hear Your Voice in a Dream” from Smash, Alan Menken and Glenn Slater for “More Or Less the Kind Of Thing You May Or May Not Possibly See On Broadway” from The Neighbors, Jeff Richmond, Tina Fey and Tracey Wigfield for “Rural Juror” from 30 Rock, Adam Schlesinger and David Javerbaum for “If I Had Time” from The 66th Annual Tony Awards, and Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman for “Hang the Moon” from Smash
- In the Music Direction category: Rob Berman and Rob Mathes for The Kennedy Center Honors, Rob Fisher for Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel, Ian Fraser for Christmas in Washington, Elliot Lawrence for The 66th Annual Tony Awards, and William Ross for The Oscars.
Also in attendance at the event were many other prior Emmy and IFMCA Award nominated composers, including Scott Glasgow (Lo) Reinhold Heil (Cloud Atlas), Grant Kirkhope (Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning), Daniel Licht (Dexter), Michael McCuistion and Lolita Ritmanis (Batman: The Brave and the Bold), Zeltia Montes (Vilamor), Frederik Wiedmann (Green Lantern: The Animated Series), and Austin Wintory (Journey).
