The IFMCA is pleased to announce the creation of a mentorship programme for young film music critics and reviewers who aspire to become IFMCA members in the future. The programme will be administered by IFMCA member Craig Lysy.
The stated aims of the IFMCA are to promote, celebrate, and comment on the art of film music and the composers who create it through published critical reviews, articles, opinion pieces, interviews, radio broadcasts, videos, public appearances, and via the annual IFMCA Awards; and to support its members in the achievement of the first aim, with a number of community-based resources and tools, through online publicity promoting their work, though the sharing of information and expertise, and through the opportunity for collaboration with other members
Currently, the IFMCA maintains a policy requiring film music journalists to have been active for five years before they are eligible to apply to join the association. However, it is clearly essential and vital to the health of any organization that it embraces renewal by bringing new talent into its ranks. There is a new rising generation of very talented millennial reviewers who could potentially bring a new cultural and generational perspective to our organization, which the IFMCA feels is an important step towards maintaining a high quality community of informed film music journalists in the future.
To foster their development and raise public awareness to their work, the IFMCA Young Reviewers Mentorship Programme intends each year to give a class of reviewers access to many of the resources and tools enjoyed by IFMCA members, provide them with any advice and guidance they may need as their film music journalism careers develop, and showcase their work here on the IFMCA website, with the intent that they will be ready to join the IFMCA when they become eligible.
To this end, we are very pleased to announce that the IFMCA Young Reviewers Mentorship Programme Class of 2018 is:
- Anthony Aguilar, 28, from Texas, United States
- Bennett Dobbins, 25, from Texas, United States
- Michael Hollands, 33, from Germany
- Cole McLeod, 27, from Canada
Please stay tuned over the upcoming months as the work of these outstanding young reviewers is showcased on the IFMCA website!
